Absolute horrendous and worst company I have ever used. They canceled on me less than 16 hours before my move. I had to find another mover last minute and pay two movers at once as literally five days later I still have not received a refund. The fact that this company has also offered no compensation for canceling is absolutely insane! If I were living pay check to pay check and was unable to afford movers (that cost so much more on less than 24 hours notice) I could have been completely screwed! They couldn’t even provide another team for me in the next 48 hours?! Imagine if I had to pay fees if I wasn’t able to move out in time. If I canceled within 24 hours there would have been repercussions. This is not a mom and pop moving shop. There is no excuse for the lack of customer service and absolute 0 effort to make this right. Let alone giving any sort of compensation, like I said, five days later I am yet to see a single cent back. Even the $1 charge to verify my card was never refunded and it’s been over a week. Absolute scam. Further more the funniest thing was, they charged me on Wednesday for a Saturday move and when I asked them why they said they charge two days ahead of time… like bruh Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday. What do you even mean? Never ever ever use this company.

**UPDATE: We won in court. They filed an appeal. Here we go again…another court date. If you read this before hiring them, don’t say you haven’t been warned. *ORIGINAL REVIEW: WE HAVE A COURT DATE AND HAVE TO SUE THEM TO GET PAID FOR DAMAGES. THEY HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN SERVED THE PAPERS. Want to learn more? Here's what happened... Oct. 2019 relocated from FL back to L.A. Full Coverage insurance was purchased and a High Value Items list (pieces over $500) was provided prior to the move. The move total was over 15K. To simplify the packing process, and to ensure items were packed to the best of their ability, we purchased additional packing supplies (from Uline) to be used: corrugated cardboard (lots of mirrored and glass items), bubble wrap, moving boxes, paper, tape. The packers used NONE of it. Instead, they used old/ used boxes. The damages were so severe with one piece being beyond shattered that it wasn't even unloaded off the truck. High Value Items furniture was thrown into a box (see images below). For my tv, they just threw it in a box with 5'x 4' mirrors...which had ZERO (no kidding, ZERO) packing. Claims was immediately contacted and provided photos, the requested details, and information. We have tried NUMEROUS times to get resolution during this period, however, judging by all the complaints that this company has, it's no wonder why they're slow to respond. And when it's time to pay what you are owed per contract? They just won't respond at all. The final straw for us was when the Claims Department contacted us to have a call with David, who's in their Legal. We rearranged work meetings and conference calls to accommodate this last-minute request. And do you know what happened? After 45 min. of waiting for their call at the scheduled time, we called them and were told the following, "DAVID IS OUT OF TOWN FOR THE WEEK." They then tried to hustle someone who supposedly works in the Legal department, Alex, to call us back. Alex did call- only to ask 'what do you think went wrong with this move?' Are you kidding me? What went wrong is that we hired Flatrate Moving and their negligent movers damaged items beyond repair. We have filed a complaint with the BBB and FMCSA. We, truly, wanted to resolve this in a civilized manner. Now we have a court date and they have officially been served the papers. Pictures for reference. THESE PHOTOS HAVE NOT BEEN ALTERED IN ANY WAY AND WERE TAKEN IN FRONT OF THE MOVERS. Also, these images are just a select few of the multiple items damaged. Horrible! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! My relocation team has just left, and I immediately want to share how remarkably professional, polite, and truly top notch everyone has been throughout the entire process. From start to finish - literally from the time I submitted an inquiry to seeing the team off, it has been a great experience. I hate moving and it’s been an incredibly stressful time, and this wonderful team including Monica and Arzelia on the logistics and intake side, and then Carlos (Senior/supervising team-member), Roberto, and Omar as the three-man team of movers were superb and gave me so much relief. They helped alleviate a ton of stress. Each person’s communication throughout left nothing unclear or uncovered. They were also just kind and a joy to speak with. I have already shared that I’ll be recommending this team to everyone I know. I have done multiple long-distance moves, and several more local moves. Trust me - if you have a headache trying to find professional, safe, fast, friendly, gracious, considerate movers at a reasonable price - book this team. Stop looking and know that I’ve already done a million comparisons for you. Also, I love that this team does not outsource their work. It’s all FlatRate employees, who you can tell are proud of their work and company. These guys genuinely went above and beyond!! You will not regret booking with FlatRate. Also, from a planning and logistics perspective, I loved the pricing process - it was clear, precise, no crazy wild fees, or surprises. Again, zero complaints. Only the best praise and so well deserved.

I have used FlatRate to move locally (in NY) and just used them to move me across the country from NY to LA. Both teams were amazing, super thorough, easy to work with, and totally professional. The team that packed me did an amazing job, not one thing broken. The team that moved me in was also amazing, super fast, knowledgeable, and professional as well. Highly recommend this moving company - they have a done a great job for me multiple times now.

I never write reviews for businesses. Only a "once in a lifetime" type of experience motivated me to deviate from my practice of generally keeping my opinion to myself. It was my terrible experience with FlatRate Moving and, in particular, with its claims department, that rose to a level of absurdity and malfeasance that I felt a moral and social obligation to warn others to steer clear of this company. You may not realize it when you hire a moving company but you are entrusting them with your most precious possessions and this company, at least in our one experience with them, destroyed or lost most of them. And then tried to weasel out of paying us back for what they lost and destroyed. We left NYC when COVID hit with a seven week old baby and were forced to have our apartment packed up shortly thereafter and put into off site storage. I am not sure why we chose FlatRate but it was a decision we would soon regret. The packing of our items went off without too much trouble. The trouble began when we wanted to access some of the boxes in storage. We called and called customer service and generally got "mailbox full" messages and when we found someone live to speak with, they were a combination of not helpful and not consistent in what they told us. We were seeking to have about 10 boxes removed and sent to us in Colorado where we had relocated. This was far beyond the capabilities of FlatRate so eventually we gave up. After settling into a home in Colorado earlier this year, we felt it was finally time to have our possessions shipped out to us. We were told that, upon beginning to prepare to move our possessions, that they had found water damage in select boxes - about 40 of 200 boxes. In addition, several pieces of furniture (couch, mattress, etc..) had also suffered water damage and now had mold damage as well and were unrecoverable. We were sent photos of the water damage and had a day to decide what to be shipped to Colorado as versus thrown out. No local inventory was made by FlatRate of what they removed from the 40 or so boxes that had water damage. They packed some items in new boxes with new numbers in the property inventory but did not label what was in those new boxes. When our things arrived in Colorado what we found was that over a dozen of the new boxes (that contained uninventoried items from the boxes they identified as water damaged) did not arrive. They had been lost. Further, some of the items that were not water damaged or moldy had been broken in transit. We were asked to fill out an individual claim and provide receipts for each of hundreds of damaged items in order to receive compensation for the property we lost. So, we spent many many hours doing just that. The total value of the water damaged and broken items was $44,000. What we could not value were the items in the dozen boxes that they packed but never arrived. We did not know what was in them but we knew that some high value items like Chanel purses were missing from what arrived. We suggested we call it a day and settle the overall claim at a little over $50K. What followed was months of radio silence. We would ask for updates from FlatRate on our claim and receive none. We would send about an email a week asking for an update. Eventually we receive an email. It says this: your claim has been settled and we are sending you a check for $4500. There was a small list of items that added up to that number - It valued a 6 month old $10K couch from Restoration Hardware where we had provided a receipt at $600. And so on. The dozen missing boxes? No value placed on that. Many of the items we had receipts for were just excluded from the calculation. Overall, a nonsensical response to a meticulously built claim. You'd think maybe a phone call would accompany a high value claim issue like this. No phone call from the claims department or from the company. So, we are hiring a lawyer and are beginning a legal process to reclaim the value of the property destroyed by FlatRate.
