Can’t reach Shift I bought a car from Shift more than a year ago, financed and paid for GAP insurance. I recently refinanced and got new GAP insurance with the new lender. I contacted the first GAP insurance provider to cancel and was told they will send the refund to the dealership and I should contact them to get it back. Now I haven’t been able to reach them for months: nobody picks up customer service line, most of their store locations are closed down. Now I don’t know how to get my money back. Company has become shady. EDIT: Tried to call them after their response but now the number is no longer reachable.

Believe the negative reviews. I was sorely mistaken when I believed my experience would be different based on my initial contact with the company. I did excessive research before purchasing my vehicle. SHIFT provided the best option for a vehicle in my price range. While in the purchasing phase, my representative answered my phone calls on the first ring, my emails within minutes and was eager to assist me in any way possible. Once I signed for the car at delivery, customer service completely disappeared. It is impossible to get anyone on the phone. I received the car 2 hours after expected delivery, at 10pm. It rolled off the delivery truck with squealing brakes - the driver refused to take the vehicle back, so I was forced to sign for it in as-is condition. The following morning, I drove it straight to a mechanic for checking. The car was sold to me with known brake problems (excessively worn brake pads, damaged rotors, and a broken cable), bald tires and electrical issues. The car had not had an oil change in so long that the car immediately started screaming about oil pressure issues and advised I turn off the car to cool it. Every few miles this warning was occurring - it's impossible to drive to work when every 10 minutes, you're pulling over on the freeway to turn off your car. Less important was the fact that the car was delivered on an empty gas tank and absolutely filthy - inside and out. They did not provide any of the car's mats - which according to the ad when purchased, would be provided. I provided the mechanic's invoice the same day (within 12 hours of receiving the vehicle) - SHIFT tossed me around for months, refusing to acknowledge the issues and making me jump through hoops to even be spoken to (the invoice couldn't be emailed, then it couldn't be hand-written, then it had to be stamped by the mechanic - each time I fulfilled their requirements, they came up with new ones to drag out the process.) By the time they acknowledged the situation, they claimed it had been "too long past the return window" and they would no longer accept the car as a return. I fought with SHIFT for close to 6 months, providing emails and data showing that I had contacted them within 12 hours of delivery, and they still would not take the car back, nor provide any resolution for the excessive amount of repairs that were needed on the vehicle. Months later, I tried to trade the car back in with them - they blocked my VIN and marked my car as unacceptable as an exchange. They knew exactly what condition the car was in and would not accept it back on their lot. (If it were in the condition they claimed it was, they would have happily taken it back, like CarMax, Carvana or Enterprise.) My entire experience after the sale was horrific - I'm stuck with the car and almost $3000 later, I'm still dealing with major issues. SHIFT is a scam - you'd be better off buying straight off the street.

DO NOT BUY FROM SHIFT. Worst car buying experience of my life. Placed an order for a BMW that should have been delivered within a few days and everything would have been great. Over a week went by before I heard anything at all after I placed my order and I had no idea what was going on. Eventually someone calls me and says there are major mechanical issues so they are shipping it somewhere else for repair. This was the beginning of what became a four or five week saga of the car being who knows where and me having zero transparency into what was actually happening. Not to mention every time I wanted to find out what was happening with the car, I had to go through the entire phone tree from the start and deal with a different person every time. I probably spoke with 20 people over the course of this awful car buying experience. Eventually when I asked to speak to a manager and asked them to waive the shipping fee they refused. They eventually shipped my car to Oakland where I then had to deal with a totally different team of incompetent people. I think the big problem was shift is that their systems are totally unreliable and there is never a single person taking responsibility for your purchase. Although I was assigned a purchase advisor who theoretically should have been this person, she would on average reply four or five business days later to my emails. I will never buy from this god-awful company again.

If I could give no stars at all, I would. I sold my car to them. I’ve called Shift late Sept because I got a mail from the dmv that they’re going to suspend my license as they notice my car isn’t insured. However I’ve already sold the car to shift and signed the paperwork. I tried to get ahold of someone on their end to fix this. I’ve called multiple times, no one picks up and no one calls you back. Worst customer service EVER. I had to go to LinkedIn and find the CEO’s contact to try and get a hold of someone. No response from them either. Even if shift may give you a good price for your car, trust me it’s not worth the hassle they put you through afterwards. Go somewhere else. RUN away.

I purchased a 2019 Tacoma from Shift... This was one of the best models I have seen. Leather, 4 door, short bed, 4x4, 12k miles with no accidents and 1 owner. Sounds too good to be true! (Right???) Well.. the truck showed up at my doorstep bright, shiny and clean. I was so impressed with the detail of the vehicle that I paid the $46k on the spot.. I drove the truck for 28 days and decided it needed a wash. Low and behold, this is where the problems have began.. After washing the truck I wanted to clean the interior. I opened the driver side door and the floor mats were both filled with water. I removed the mats and the entire carpet was soaked also. When I started the truck all the electrical on the dash was malfunctioning. It was 98 degrees outside, but at that time it said it was -24 with snow flashing on the dash. How could this be possible? What had happened is the windshield leaked and got all the electrical wet behind the dash.. Shift was very slow to respond and kept calling it a dealership repair. To this day it have never been repaired. Shift keeps giving me the run around.. I find it really hard to believe that when they detailed the truck it didn't leak.. BE AWARE OF BUYING ANYTHING FROM SHIFT! It could be too good to be true.
