Andy is a great doctor, but a lousy patient-doctor communicator. And if the patient can't contact his doctor what good is even the best doctor? Thus one star. Here're the details. Like many doctors nowadays Ross is on many MyChart efiles that carry patient data like test results, appointments made and kept, shots, and meds, and the really really important item: Messages. With Messages a patient can directly contact their physician with a confidential email like message. I personally have Sutter, Hill, John Muir, and Altais MyCharts. Andy is on the Altais MyChart with me. A few months ago I noticed that Andy is the only...only...doctor on MyCharts that does not have Messages. I cannot contact him by message like I can all my other doctors. He used to use Message, but he canceled that option. Now the only way I can contact Andy is indirectly by phone thru his staff or, of course, in person. Recently I needed to contact him; so on July 3 I called his office. They responded, he'll call you back. I assumed they meant that day. So I canceled a previous appointment with another person to be ready for his call. But he didn't call back. July 4 was a holiday. No way he'd call back then. July 5, still no call. So once again I called his office to ask why Andy didn't call back on July 3. "He wasn't in his office on that day," was their reply. So once again I let his staff know I needed to talk to Dr. Ross. He'll call back was the standard reply. Understand they don't know when or even if he'll call back so we patients need to keep our days clear of other plans to make sure we can take those calls back. He did call, about 1830 that evening. I asked him why he canceled Messages noting that all the other doctors on MyCharts still had their Messages options. "They'll burn out before I do," he said. He showed no understanding of what the lack of Messages does to his patients' abilities to communicate with him. And the beat goes on...August 13. I found that I need to have my antibiotics prescription changed because the Amoxicillin wasn't working. So I called his office to leave an "urgent" message for Dr. Ross to call back. They promised to leave it with him marked urgent. He never called back. This is unacceptable. I have pneumonia and an urgent need to change an antibiotic to combat it and cannot message that urgent need directly to Dr. Ross for a prescription change. He's a great doctor, but a lousy communicator. And patients really need to have open channels to their PCPs.

Dr. Ross is, hands down, the best doctor in the Bay Area. He takes time with each patient and, yes he often runs late, but he is worth it. He is truly a remarkable doctor who has been right when specialists have been wrong. I trust him. That is a big deal today.

Awesome Doctor! Dr. Ross is very wise, great sense of humor and genuine. I felt very relaxed and comfortable talking to him. He is very thorough and is the first doctor to ever call me personally just to follow-up with me. He doesn’t just treat you like another patient, he treats you like a friend!

Dr. Ross is by far the best general practitioner I have encountered through the years. Knowledge, caring, compassionate, thorough, patience.....and a great sense of humor! Both my husband switched from our regular doctor whom treated us like a number. We are grateful to find a wonderful doctor like Dr. Andrew Ross. However, we think the office staff’s client service skills has room to be improved.

Dr Andy has been our doctor for about 20 years. He is kind, caring, smart, very well educated and compassionate. He has taken very good care of both of us over the years and seen me through multiple cancer diagnosis. He takes excellent care of us and refers us to the best specialists around when needed. He has become a much trusted friend over the years and we have much affection and confidence in his knowledge and his methods.
