They have been reliable for my son’s camp for much of the summer. Clean, air-conditioned 💨buses. There was a smelly one that one time. 😬When my son left his smartwatch on the bus it was recovered. The dispatch lady (sorry) was very helpful. Pickup was easy! Note: they have relocated from V St NE to Landover.

In mid-April after attempts to reach Battle general manager Brian Jackson through voicemail, email, and assistance from the DC VA Medical Center Transportation office, he called me to hear my concerns. I was surprised when he told me that he rarely gets negative feedback concerning the service as Battle has been working with the VA for a very long time. I shared that due to the age of most veterans using the service, they wouldn't know how to go about doing so. I can only surmise that either the remote male dispatcher I've complained to doesn't share with Mr. Jackson or is ignored. Also, given the number of complaints I've heard from VA staff and other veterans, Battle needs independent surveys. Mr. Jackson stated that their VA contract was recently renewed with a far greater patient load & community care trips but not to pay enough drivers to fulfill that burden. I've noticed several new drivers. However, the drivers supervisor, Harold, is still driving and not able to stay at the VA front desk. I suggest there be a dedicated phone with a sign and instruction/phone # to call Battle if desk is unmanned. Regarding the lack of professionalism by many drivers, he told me that there is a reason why they are only drivers. I shared the differences I've experienced with travel through the VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia and how superior they were to Battle. Today, on 21 June 2024, after having time to see if that conversation created changes, I'm sharing current observations and concerning safety and professionalism. This morning, I had a VA appointment. My Battle driver, Raymond (new), called me well in advance to let me know when he'd arrive. He came on time, greeted me by name at pickup, then instructed me to let him know if I was too hot/cold and if the radio was too loud. He secured my powerchair at all 4 points without me asking. He then escorted me into the hospital as I was not feeling well. For the return home, my Battle driver, Denard, had another person in a scooter load before me. That person opted to sit in the van seat beside her scooter. Initially, Denard only secured my powerchair at all 4 points but didn't secure the scooter. When I asked him about it, an argument began. His answers changed from that it was heavy enough, that he was careful, it wasn't going anywhere, if it was over a certain weight it didn't need to be secured, they only do it if the rider requests it, he was trained that way, that's how we do it. He finally secured the scooter without answering if it was policy. I looked up the Virginia regulation regarding the securing of wheelchairs in a hired vehicle for that use, and it clearly states that wheelchairs must be secured while the vehicle is in motion. After telling him this, he actually told me that he wasn't going to "argue with me and that's it." During a previous ride, a different driver loaded a manual wheelchair user behind the driver seat, her husband in a powerchair beside her, and me behind him. That driver ignored numerous requests from the husband to provide his wife with a seat belt. The driver stated that she wasn't going anywhere as she was wedged between his chair and the van seat behind her. The driver also failed to secure both powerchairs at all 4 points until I requested that he do so. I've heard rumors of camera installations in vans. A company can't leave the responsibility of ensuring drivers are safe to riders. Vans should have GPS tracking devices to preclude false reporting by drivers. Drivers should have company phones that are dash mounted to stay handsfree. The caller ID would be a Battle # instead of driver's private # so that veterans would know who is calling. As to my comments to Mr. Jackson about drivers acting like guys on the corner, it's still happening when I'm not observed especially in front of the VA. They curse, too. You don't even have to ride with Battle to get an unfavorable view of the company. These drivers are the face of this company. #VeteransAffairs #WashingtonDCVAMedicalCenter #Battle Transportation

They appeared to have some unsafe drivers on the road. Just saw one of their drivers who looked like he was about 100 years old On I 95 in Virginia north of Fredericksburg, doing 45 miles an hour and swerving all over the road, and the bus was loaded with kids. God helped them kids.

Move the double parked cars out of the parking lot in Landover or I will have them all towed.

The driver, Jimmy, was late to pick me up at the time specified via voice message. I called to find out if they were coming at all, after waiting outside and was told that they would pick me up an additional 45 minutes later. No apology was offered. Instead, blame was placed on me. Jimmy said that I should have called earlier, as a previous client canceled and there was no longer a need to rush. Why should I call if he advised of a pick up time. Poor customer service skills. I do not recommend.
