This hotel is beautiful. Everything from the floral scent throughout the hotel to the drinks and service were immaculate during our stay. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, the staff is friendly and helpful and the location was perfect for our stay, as we were there to celebrate a birthday at the wharf. We ordered room service twice during our stay, once very late and once for breakfast, both times were great. Once the member of the staff knew we were celebrating a birthday, he came back up with a piece of cake! Parking is a bit pricey at $80/ night but there are other parking garages nearby if you choose. The location is a quick walk to the wharf and you’re close to all the sightseeing spots you’d want to visit. The property is well maintained. I would definitely stay here again!

BEWARE OF THE TRAIN NOISE! My husband and I had a one night anniversary stay at the Salamander DC. We chose the hotel because we had had a lovely stay in the Mandarin Oriental years ago and we were excited to see the changes. We splurged on a deluxe view room and the view from room 860 was spectacular. But we were never warned about the train noise which was truly ridiculous. Six freight trains came through during the night -- it was almost like sleep torture. You would just get back to sleep and the next one would arrive and these were very long and very loud trains. We left first thing the next morning so we could go home and get some sleep. A sad anniversary getaway indeed. Despite the view, those rooms should not be rented in good faith or should be offered with a noise disclaimer (see photo below how close the train track is). I can't believe we paid $600 for the worst night of sleep we have had in years. In response to my review on TripAdvisor, the manager said to please be in touch. I have emailed him twice but have never received a response.

The Salamander Hotel in Washington DC is super fancy. My hope is that they will update some of the furniture pieces as well as the lighting (old Mandarin Oriental). It's outdated to a degree, but still pretty elegant. When you walk in, you see muted blues, grey and white, calming. Public areas are clean. The hotel is clean. They have this amazing popcorn at the bar that tastes so good – it's cooked in truffle oil, and once you try it, you can't stop eating it. It's perfect with any drink. They give you these fancy linen napkins when you sit down at the bar, they are divine. The front desk staff is well dressed, poised and professional. They are also some of the most diverse, beautiful shades of light browns to deep dark brown. All well spoken. The wait staff could use a bit of energy. The bed, shower and tub were great. For clarity, I think the tub is too high. The food was very good, so were the desserts I indulged in. If you want to stay somewhere classy, upscale within walking distance from most sites in the city, the Salamander Hotel is the place to go.

Staff are so friendly!!! The renovations from the prior hotel are coming along nicely and the rooms are beautiful with thoughtful details. The spa-like bathrooms are a standout. We chose to have a view of the tidal basin and the wharf and were not disappointed - we loved watching the city and the planes go by! The National Mall is a 5 min walk away which was useful for seeing the monuments and museums, but it is best to drive or Uber to downtown DC/Penn Quarter in our opinion just because the trek back can be long. Our room did experience some air conditioning issues, not sure if it was just our room, but the temperature never reached the setting on the thermostat... staying at approx 70 degrees through our stay. Staff were quick to resolve the issue when we brought it to their attention by wiring our room to be set to 60 degrees. It did help but as I mentioned the room stayed around 70 degrees (still better than the 75 we experienced the first night). Valet service was prompt and attentive, although a little high in price compared to some other hotels in DC. Overall we had a wonderful time, it just seems like a few kinks need to be worked out still.

Thanks to Gonzalo my family and I had an amazing first time at Salamander Washington DC. I arrived before my family and with Gonzalo’s and Charles’ help I was able to upgrade to an amazing suite. Gonzalo made sure everything was perfect for our stay and the entire Salamander staff was absolutely amazing, professional and courteous. We really enjoyed our stay and we look forward to the completion of the remodeling project that was taking place during August while we were there. I am sure it will only add to the luxury accommodations offered. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an elevated stay while in the DC area.
