UNRELIABLE. Stops working almost twice a month. For some reason morning commute is fine unless there is a fire or hazard on the road. Afternoon commute is terrible. Shoe rules are not enforced which causes the whole cabin to stink like nasty cheese. Better off with Cal Train or Amtrak or Uber if not in route.

And actual train station in San Jose. It also is a bus plaza. There is paid parking in the front of the station. You can take, Amtrak, Greyhound,VTA, etc... It's all here. The station dates from 1935 and it is small compared to other stations in major cities. However, it i clean and has a snack/news shop an clean bathrooms. The architecture is cool and there are historical displays in cases, which you will find very interesting information about the Ohlone people, and transportation history of the region. The seating and waiting area is nice and relaxed. You might see some people who may be in need of a buck or some change for a meal, helping out will make you feel good.

Station is served by Amtrak Coast Starlight (north to Seattle, south to LA) and Amtrak California to Sacramento. Caltrain also runs a commuter service up the peninsula to San Francisco. The local VTA runs buses and a light rail line from this station. Amtrak also runs a bus service over the Santa Cruz mountains to the city of Santa Cruz. It is next to the city's arena. For the tenth largest city in the US, the station is small and underwhelming compared with other Amtrak downtown location, but the station is clean and the building is historical. There is a small kiosk selling snacks, magazines, newspapers, and train souvenirs. Amtrak Coast Starlight's schedule has been reduced to three times a week due to Covid (9/2020), so double check before booking. Southbound usually arrives just before 10:00 AM, and the northbound arrives around 8:30 PM.

Great stop w/clean restrooms, wooden benches, historical buildings, great customer service & roomy waiting area and helpful folks....lil store sells collection of train pins & lots of lil items, food, snacks, ice cream, treats, tourist goods, coffee, magazines, toys n more...thanks 4 good memories guys...nice chatting w/Jose at nit as we waited2board late #14train...

Terrible experience, the station has no information signs and no information points We arrived at 11 pm and we missed the train after looking for the right track, the next train passed within an hour. Just a small screen indicating the trains and wagons. Finally we had to pay an Uber to San Francisco.
