Dr Fernandez Miranda is an outstanding surgeon. I was lucky to be in his care as I came in through the ER Saturday prior. I had a CT and MRI which revealed a cyst a tumor embedded in my pituitary gland. He explained everything to our family. It is obvious how much he cares about his patients. Dr Fernandez Miranda is amazing! He is absolutely the best. We couldn’t have asked for a more caring, compassionate, confident, skilled, informative and honest surgeon to handle our daughter’s case. Our daughter is 19 years old and was diagnosed with what we all thought was either a craniopharyngioma or a Germinoma (cancerous) on 9/11/20. She had surgery on 10/7/20 and it was discovered that she had a very rare brain tumor called a Granular Cell tumor of the pituitary stalk. It was a very difficult, delicate and long surgery. Dr. Fernandez himself called my husband and I to tell us that the tumor was not cancerous, that is was a Granular Cell tumor and that he would be able to proceed with the surgery. Once the surgery was completed, he himself again called to let us know that she did great in surgery, that she was waking up and that he tried his hardest but he was not able to save the pituitary stalk. This came as no surprise to us because he was always upfront and honest with us. He never gave us false hopes or got our expectations up. He had told us from the start that he would try to save it but was not confident that it would be possible. His honesty and candor throughout everything has meant so much to our family. There were some complications due to the type of tumor and an EVD had to be done. (A drain was put in her head to relieve the swelling.) Dr. Fernandez Miranda had let me know after the surgery that we might have to do this and it was done the next morning. He and his entire team checked on her daily and was there for our family. They made us comfortable and feel like we were a part of their family with the compassionate and caring attitude they showed. After 16 days in the hospital my daughter is home and doing really well. She still has a lot of healing to do, hormone replacements to balance out and we are still trying to figure out what is going on with her partial vision deficits but I know that with Dr. Fernandez and his team on her side, she will get through this and will continue to receive the best possible care there is.
