Phil has an incredible method and approach to teaching the guitar. The material and system he has developed are extremely comprehensive. You will learn proper technique, music theory, and how it’s all incorporated into playing the guitar (as well as songwriting). He is highly well-organized in conducting his classes virtually and in person, allowing for smooth rescheduling if/when needed. If you have been playing for a while, you can expect to fill in gaps in your knowledge. Above all else, he makes the experience fun, and it is rewarding if you follow his lessons and advice. Learning from Phil has been one of my best decisions in my guitar journey. I’ve been playing the guitar intermittently for over a decade and had hit a plateau. It’s been six months since I started with Phil, and I’ve made more progress in that time than in six years of trying to learn from the ludicrous amount of sources on the internet. (Oh don't worry, Phil will help make sense of how to use some of those sources too!) If you want to learn the instrument properly, even with some prior knowledge- this is the place for you!

I've been taking lessons with Phil since January 2021. Phil is extremely knowledgable about music, and is a great guitar teacher. He starts with the basics teaching fundamental guitar skills, and builds on that foundation adding slightly more complex material every lesson. Additionally, his lessons include tips on *how to learn* and develop a disciplined practice routine, which is key to becoming better at the guitar!

Phil is professional and knowledgeable. He is very organized in each class session. He sent out reminders prior to each class, and email notes on how to practice the skill. He also offers both in person or online class depending on your preference. It is also easy to cancel/re-schedule online if there is a conflict. I went to Phil after having meddled with the guitar off and on for about twenty years, but never having felt that I was anywhere close to where I wanted to be. Right off the bat, Phil was able to get me through my first "real" guitar solo that I had been working on, but was never able to get up to speed with. After that, Phil was able to gauge where my abilities were at, then jump around in his book to help me fill in the gaps. Phil's options to have a private one-on-one session with the flexibility to meet online, along with in-person group lessons where you can learn from Phil and other guitarists at different ability levels, really makes the learning experience fun and intuitive. I would highly recommend him.
