Dr Ralph was amazing. He listened, was kind, I left feeling like I was heard and respected. I don’t know what other people are saying as far as reviews, my experience was one of the best I’ve had with a doctor. And I have 3 neurologists I’m seeing for my issues.

I was nervous about being paired with him for my neurology video visit based on the reviews, but I felt compelled to write a review post visit based on my experience. I have seen probably dozens of doctors at this point for a mystery condition that has been plaguing me for 5-7 years (I’ve literally lost count.) I read several reviews that said he didn’t offer sound advice or had poor bedside manner or whatever and I found him to be extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, forthright, and he even made a moment that would normally make me cry (finding out there’s probably no treatment for what I have) into something a little more lighthearted by making a quick comment about silence filling the room. I’m looking forward to the genetic testing he ordered and now I’m planning to meet him in person in a couple months. He even wants to re do the nerve testing that two doctors have done and diagnosed me with carpal tunnel. He said he’s not even sure that’s what it is …which was exciting to hear. I’ve always wondered how it was even possible considering I don’t do a lot of repetitive motions and my hands go numb to the point I can’t even do every day tasks without help. I’m Excited he is a part of my medical team, and I feel his knowledge bolsters it significantly. I’ll update if things go astray, but somehow I highly doubt that . Thank you Dr. Ralph.

I found Dr. Ralph to be dismissive of my questions while explaining nuances of my exam with an intern. He has zero warmth and shares his knowledge begrudgingly, if at all with patients. He seems to be well regarded and liked by others working at UCSF which has many excellent doctors. Select someone else and let them pick his brain for you.

I’ve edited my review because sharing my honest experience only harmed me. It’s widely agreed that UCSF has tremendous capabilities and staff and that Dr Poncilet is a world expert and genuinely cares about the welfare and outcomes for patient. Unfortunately, speak as an experienced health care professional with a 2+ year experience of care directed by Dr Ralph, he repeatedly ignored the recommendations of his fellows, residents and attendants and refused to allow the work up they all ordered and personally repeated my EMGs and watched my ability to walk deteriorate refusing to diagnose or offer treatment It’s inexplicably and I feel important to say that at NO time did I complain of pain so hard to make excuses of drug seeking or even worse diagnoses placed in my records and others to deny evaluations that may detect iatrogenic injuries by other institutions. I don’t know his motivation but in best interest of all dedicated UCSF PROFESSIONALS for Mr Ralph to retire. He no longer deserves to be referred to as doctor when he began violating his oath to “1st do no harm”. UCSFs documented unrelenting active ascending axonal, long and short fiber demyelination causing numbness and now neurogenic atrophy in my lower extremities continues to progress and may have me discover I’m unable to stand any day soon. Dr Ralph Is not concerned; his life as a professional is long over and it’s time to retire before he jeopardizes the licenses of any more colleagues and the institution. It’s tragic I had received excellent, kind, compassionate and exceptional care with years of follow up by all physicians in the epilepsy, neurosurgery, neuro oncology dealing with a rare brain tumor, and i feel if Dr John Walker was still with us he would actively intervene to see a patient like me they had all worked selflessly to recover was not subject to the apathy and active sabotage of care Shame on UCSF for allowing Dr Ralph to continue endangering patients and the reputation of UCSF neurological services

I have been a patient of Dr Ralph for over 10 years. I referred to him as my Specialist (because my local Neurologist) sent me to him. He has always been professional, kind knowledgeable. I highly recommend him.
