If capable, walk from the welcome center to Stonehenge (2 km ) thru the farmers field and forest and Stonehenge will grow from the distance opposed to a crowded shuttle bus. An amazing place to be if you like ancient history.

If you follow the path on the left you will easily get to the "free" zone. You can actually spend a bit of time with a wonderful view over Stonehenge and take all of your pictures from less than 100m away for free. If you have a tight budget I'd recommend this path.

Well worth the detour. A lovely walk from the visitors centre to the Stones, although make sure you’re wearing walking shoes! The staff recommended scenic route through the fields on the return trip, so again make sure you have suitable footwear. There is a free bus as an alternative. A fascinating afternoon.

Stunning, though my visit was hugely impacted by other visitors - obviously a place like this is going to be teeming, that's to be expected - but it was the bizarre behaviour that really impacted my experience of this sacred, powerful site. That said, I was able to find a quiet(ish) spot to sit for half an hour to ground and meditate, which was beautiful. For me, Stonehenge is quite unlike the many other stone circles I've visited. The energy is palpable, but I spent most of my time there saying sorry to the stones for those that seemed to regard them more as a freak show or something to tick off a list. When you visit, please consider this is not just 'some big stones' (and if that's how you feel, perhaps this isn't the place for you to visit?), but a place of huge sacred power - please consider how you'd behave in a church, mosque or any other place of worship and act accordingly. Have fun, yes! Take photos, of course! But adults doing handstands and crabs, grown men, bafflingly recording themselves doing pretend fight scenes and all manner of odd behaviour seems to be the norm here. PLEASE think of what this site means to some of us before visiting. The on-site facilities (a 30 minute walk from the stones, near the car park) are excellent with toilets, a shop, cafe and an exhibition. I am a member of English Heritage (so entry is free) but I would have no issue paying the (admittedly steep) admission charge as membership/admission helps fund conservation of sites like this. A lovely experience, but one I'd only repeat when special access directly to the stones is permitted as the tourist attraction vibe really didn't do it for me.

Visiting Stonehenge was an unforgettable experience! The ancient stone circle is even more impressive in person than in pictures. The history and mystery surrounding it make for a fascinating visit, and the audio guide provided great insights into its origins and significance. The landscape around the site is beautiful and peaceful, adding to the magical atmosphere. Be sure to book your tickets in advance to avoid crowds, and take time to explore the visitor center, which has excellent exhibits. Overall, a must-see for history lovers and anyone seeking a unique cultural experience!
